Busy Summer for Pre-Fab Construction & BAS Installation

Many old and new landmark buildings are changing the fabric of the Milwaukee landscape. It’s been a busy summer for the team at Uihlein Electric – with many project managers utilizing our pre-fab construction and retail logistics services.

A revival of the St. Anthony’s Hospital Campus

The former St. Anthony’s Hospital located along North 10th Street in Milwaukee is slated to complete its building renovation in September this year. The structure is being repurposed to hold modern apartments that will offer long-term, supportive-housing to individuals needing assistance.  Altium, the General Contractor on the job, contracted Uihlein Electric to help develop its 60-unit apartment building by installing pre-fabricated service panels for each of the apartments. Pre-fabrication is an excellent management option for non-profit construction projects because it almost always guarantees a reduction in installation time and errors. When funding is a critical consideration, as in non-profit work, and time is money, pre-fab is the way to go.

Uihlein Electric Fulfillment and Training Center

Uihlein Electric found it necessary to invest and update its own warehouse facility to accommodate a growing number of clients utilizing pre-fab construction planning or using our warehouse for commissioning and technology deployment. The 8,000 square foot space located adjacent to the central office was overhauled to organize our materials, equipment, and the bays used for various types of fulfillment work. The technology bay was expanded to create more space for our logistics team. In this area, the staff manages equipment check-ins and commission electronics for store and security systems. The bay is set up to streamline the work necessary to prep systems installation kits, secure them on palettes, and quickly label them for nationwide deployment. The warehouse remodel also included a 1,000 square foot, 48-seat meeting and training center.

Coordinated Installations, Logistics and Deployment

Our service division has been very busy working on several nationwide rollouts. One project for a nationally-based grocer involved deploying new point-of-sale system equipment to 400 locations over the course of three months. We coordinated material delivery, field resources, and logistics of customer-owned equipment, then installed new cabling to supply power to the equipment. The project ran during usual business hours with minimal disruption of service for its customers.

A well-known, nationwide retailer asked us to coordinate an exchange of front-end checkout equipment. In our warehouse space we were able to receive the bulk delivery of technology, check-in and tag the units, then re-kit the components for delivery to individual stores. We managed final systems installations to twenty area stores.

A national health-care service provider, and one of our newer clients, invested in network upgrades for over 100 of their locations, spanning 18 states. Our team managed all on-site installations of their new network equipment and peripherals.
