Well orchestrated – Westin Hotel open and ready for 50th Summerfest celebration

Summerfest has been bringing Milwaukee and the world together, united by music for 50 years.  This world-class event hosts over 800 bands and attracts nearly 900,000 people to the downtown area.  However, this year music lovers can enjoy luxurious accommodations closer to the lakefront venue at the newly opened Westin Hotel.

The new downtown Westin Hotel is the first such branded hotel in Wisconsin.  It claims to be the closest hotel to the lakefront, closest hotel to Summerfest, closest to the business district and also contains a walkway to the US Bank building.

Pre-Fab Planning Key to Speedy-Build

Uihlein Electric worked with the firms of Kahler Slater and J.H. Findorff, to complete several electrical aspects of the project. The planned timeline called for a completion date in advance of the opening of Summerfest on June 28. In fact, the Westin opened June 1, three weeks ahead of schedule.

The Westin is nine stories consisting of 220 guest rooms, meeting rooms, and a restaurant and lounge. Uihlein Electric’s team headed by Foreman, James Turdo, designed a prefabricated system for the guest suites off-site. This process aided the accelerated timeline of the building schedule, made  installation on-site more consistent, and reduced errors.

Uihlein employed 30 skilled laborers and invested over 20,000 workforce hours to the project. The work Uihlein Electric performed included the installation of the fire alarm, power, lighting, dimming, and repeater systems; two-way communications, and CCTV.
